DRAG STUDIES
|
This course explores drag as a mode of queer performance, paying particular attention to the aesthetics, politics, and audiences of drag. Through a wide range of readings and viewings we will search for an understanding, even a simple definition, of “drag.” We will explore drag performance as a LGBTQ+ cultural practice, a means of community formation, a potential disruption of gender norms and binaries, and as a radical act of liberation. We will also pay close attention to drag as an intersectional art form, informed not only by gender and sexuality, but also race, class, and numerous other identities.
