The goal of course is to highlight a community need/concern in aging (locally, regionally, or wider community) and invite students to address the need/concern. This course involves students working with a community-based organization (CBO) that provides services, support, or advocacy to older adult or addresses aging related issues. Students will work with the CBO and undertake a project from start to finish.The project, which is established in advance by the instructor, involves students working in small groups in which students will evaluate a program, implement a new program, assist with enhancing practices, or advance organizational policies.

This course is community-based in which the class will partner with Fairhaven Senior Services a planned life community for older adults located 3-blocks from campus (435 W Starin Road). Students will learn about factors related to aging; be trained on a creative story-telling program designed to engage older persons; and deliver the program to Fairhaven Residents virtually or in-person. The format of delivery will be based on residents preferences and needs. A background check is required to participate in this course.
This is a community-based learning class that will engage students in collaborative learning experiences with partner community organizations. It is possible that part of the work you perform with your community partner will occur off campus. Your professor will provide more details on the first day of class.
