CA0002CA0002 EGYPT THROUGH THE AGES
Through illustrated lectures and critical group discussions, students will investigate the art, architecture, and material culture of Egypt from the prehistoric past to the present. For centuries, the art and architecture of Ancient Egypt has been used to tell the story (myth) of western civilization and as such is typically segregated from the rest of the history of Egypt, especially the art and architecture of the Islamic cultures of Egypt from the medieval caliphates to early modern empires, into the contemporary era. Further still, the Jewish and Christian histories of Egypt are too often omitted entirely, and its Africanness ignored.
