PROFESSIONAL MUSEUM PRACTICES
|
In this course, students will develop a broad understanding of museums
(primarily art museums) — from their historical, colonialist origins to their present roles in society and the issues they face in our contemporary moment. Furthermore, students will learn about the many and varied museum-based careers through conversations with museum practitioners in the classroom context and beyond. Students will have the opportunity to develop real-world curatorial and collections management skills as well as an understanding of field-specific language, in addition to professional networking acumen that could facilitate a smooth transition from a university environment to professional museum work.
