This course is intended as preparation for those who seek a licensure in music that which may require them to instruct instrumental ensembles and/or lessons as part of their teaching duties. Students will learn about the anatomical, physiological and acoustic elements of playing and teaching brass, percussion, string and woodwind instruments in order to gain a working knowledge of the mechanics of performance. Emphasis is placed on application of pedagogy to instrumental ensemble and private lesson instruction, and on providing students with the tools and resources to aid them in their teaching career. | |||||

Designed to prepare students with the basic music and pedagogical skills/knowledge to successfully teach choral music. Students will explore the following topics: rehearsal techniques & pedagogy, choral literature appropriate for a variety of ensembles (Western, non-Western, under-represented), creating the choral sound and ensemble, teaching methods and techniques, the adolescent voice and development, the national standards (& Wisconsin state music standards) in music education, the CMP approach to music instruction, choral music administration, interdisciplinary music instruction, differentiation for a wide variety of learners and groups, classroom management, education theories and philosophies, and assessment in the music ensemble. | |||||
