In this course, students will explore topics related to counseling clients who identify as being part of the LGBTQIA+ population. The course will increase student understanding of gender and affectional orientation, developmental issues for LGBTQIA+ people, emerging issues, and affirmative counseling considerations and strategies when working with LGBTQIA+ clients. This course will also increase student understanding on providing affirmative counseling with various populations within the LGBTQIA+ community (e.g., lesbians, gay males, bisexual/pansexual/polysexual clients, transgender, queer and genderqueer, questioning, intersex, asexual, two-spirit, etc.). | |||||

In this course, students will explore variations of human sexuality (e.g., pansexuality, heterosexuality, fetish) and relationships (monogamy, polygamy), and increase understanding regarding sexual development, functioning, sexual anatomy & physiology, sexual response cycles, psychological and social sexual dynamics, treatment of sexual disorders and sexual trauma/abuse, sexual behavior patterns, sexual communication, contraception, infertility, and sexually transmitted infections. The course will also increase student understanding on how to work effectively with client sexuality, intimacy, and relationship issues. |
