TECHNOLOGY FOR MUSIC EDUCATORS

EARLY CHILDHOOD MUSIC METHODS

Early Childhood Music Methods is designed to prepare early childhood education majors to enhance and support music education through awareness of the role of music in children's lives and the goals and processes necessary for musical development. Preservice teachers gain a basic understanding of musical fundamentals, and the skills, understanding and dispositions which will allow them to enrich classroom environments through the incorporation of music into various school settings.
INSTRUMENTAL PEDAGOGY FOR CHORAL MUSIC EDUCATORS

This course is intended as preparation for choral music education majors who may be required to instruct instrumental ensembles and/or lessons as part of their teaching assignment as per the comprehensive Wisconsin music educator license.. Students will learn about the anatomical, physiological and acoustic elements of playing and teaching brass, percussion, string and woodwind instruments in order to gain a working knowledge of the mechanics of performance. Emphasis is placed on application of pedagogy to instrumental ensemble and private lesson instruction, and on providing students with the tools and resources to aid them in their teaching career.
WOODWIND TECHNIQUES I

Woodwind Techniques I provides music education students seeking licensure, functional instruction on non-primary woodwind instruments. The course emphasizes the development of pedagogical and performance level on the clarinet and flute and diagnose and solve the problems of embouchure, breathing, posture, tone production, hand position, technique and basic musicianship.
PERCUSSION TECHNIQUES

Study of snare drum, timpani, keyboard percussion, drum set and other percussion instruments. Consideration given to the problems of the beginning percussionist. Repeatable.
MUSIC EDUCATION PEDAGOGY

This course is to prepare choral and instrumental music education students to successfully teach and administer an elementary and/or middle school choral or instrumental performance program. A wide variety of topics will be covered, representing the diversity of roles and expectations placed upon the public-school choral or instrumental music educators. Readings will be drawn from various text sources, Anderson Library reserve materials and instructor's personal library. Any student with special needs and who wishes assistance should contact the instructor at the end of class.
PEDAGOGY AND PRACTICE FOR TEACHING GENERAL MUSIC K-12

This course provides an introduction to pedagogical approaches, instructional and assessment strategies, and materials for teaching in the K-12 general music classroom. Topics include musical growth, skill and conceptual development, and synthesis of materials and methods into curricular practice through investigation of textbook series, supplementary materials, and technology resources.
LITERACY AND ASSESSMENT STRATEGIES FOR THE MUSIC TEACHER
