FUNDAMENTALS OF MUSIC
A beginning course in music theory for interested students. The course content includes basic concepts of notation, pitch, rhythm, scales, and chords. Beginning listening and music reading skills are taught. Credits not applicable to music major or minor.
MUSIC LITERATURE AND APPRECIATION
A guide to the underst&ing of music through listening experiences in the various styles & historical periods
MUSIC IN THE UNITED STATES
An introduction to music in the United States, with an emphasis on ways in which music has reflected and shaped the cultural lives and social institutions of various ethnic and racial groups. Includes study of music from pre-United States cultures, the synthesis of music from said cultures, and also styles uniquely American such as jazz, rock, and American pop music.
JAZZ HISTORY AND APPRECIATION
An Intro to the styles & forms of jazz through a study of its history, Lit., cultural influences, musical structure, & prominent performers. Includes recorded listening experiences.
