CENTRAL CONCEPTS IN COMPOSITION THEORY

ENGLISH 679

Writing is a complicated venture that takes various forms depending on purpose, audience, etc. But, there is also a science to how and why writing happens. This course will introduce you to foundational and current theories of composition/writing to enhance your writing abilities and, if you are an educator, enhance your ability to teach writing.

FOUNDATIONS OF ENGLISH COMPOSITION

ENGLISH 680

This course will cover various methods of developing and organizing composition curriculum, including concepts of design and assignment types. Successful completion of the course will help you to: (1) Understand the field of composition studies, (2) Understand and apply practices for effective writing, (3) Hone your writing skills, (4) Hone your teaching skills, and (5) Design learning activities and course documents that scaffold writing instruction.

SPECIAL STUDIES

ENGLISH 696

Variable topics. Group activity. Not offered regularly in the curriculum but offered on topics selected on the basis of timeliness, need, and interest, and generally in the format of regularly scheduled Catalog offerings.
