This course offers a broad interdisciplinary tour of contemporary Latin America drawing ideas on material from history, art, anthropology, political science and literature. The three main themes of the course are the historical roots of Latin America's cultural identities, the importance of modern social movements in confronting persistent inequalitites, and the way immigration has shaped the region.
