This course will work in depth with the Jazz Strings Literature, providing students with a comfortable knowledge of the history of jazz with special focus on the involvement of strings, proven techniques for teaching jazz improvisation within the context of string playing, a working foundation of jazz theory, and jazz accompaniment rhythms as related to specific bowing techniques. Students will develop a wide breadth of knowledge of various pedagogical methods and a wide variety of teaching techniques on an array of string subjects including organization and techniques of Marching Band, movement in string playing (Paul Rolland), including: amplification of sound/instruments, and Strolling strings. In addition this course will examine string educational method books, string literature of all levels, provide practical experience on secondary instruments, experience teaching a classroom of peers as well as the String Academy.
