BEGINNING JAPANESE II
FORNLANG 102
Japanese 102 is the second semester of a two-semester, beginning Japanese language course which emphasizes oral skills but also introduces the written language (hiragana and katakana syllabaries). It also exposes students to the culture of Japan.
INTERMEDIATE JAPANESE I
FORNLANG 201
This is a fourth semester of sequence of Japanese language instruction. Entering students are expected to have mastered the writing system (with approximately 600 Kanji characters of the 2000 needed to be able to read newspapers and be considered fully literate). This course develops the four skill areas (listening, speaking, reading and writing) to cultivate an overall Japanese language ability. Students will continue to build vocabulary, master more serious grammar, ad work on writing/reading skills. The course prepares students for continued study of Japanese (either third year at another American university or in a Study Abroad program).
