INFORMING THE ED CONSUMER
2005 Spring Term

The course explores the political pressures affecting various aspects of public education including legal issues, standards and standardized testing, the American with Disabilities Act, school violence, school funding, literacy, language in education, the arts in education, technology in education, multiculturalism, gender issues, and curriculum reform. Units of study will broadly focus on three areas: (1) the mission of public education, (2) the actual practice it engenders, and (3) the impact of that practice on American society. Units will be led by professors having expertise in the areas to be considered.
