The keystone of the course is the annual University of Wisconsin Reading Symposium on Factors Related to Reading Performance. The purpose of the symposium is to inform educators of current thinking on factors that appear to influence students' reading performance. The course will include attendance at the symposium and at additional class sessions. Repeatable.

This is a hybrid course with a portion of the class work being done online. Students will be expected to register for and attend the UW-System Symposium on Reading on June 26 & 27 in Stevens Point, WI, at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Convention Center, with additional on-campus meetings in Whitewater on June 17, June 24, and July 15. Reading materials are provided online by conference presenters, with the cost included in a separate conference registration fee.
