Differentiated Instruction is a teaching theory based on the premise that the instructional approaches should vary and be adapeted in relation to individual and diverse students in classrooms. "In a differentiated classroom, the teacher proactively plans and carries our varied approaches to content, process, and product in anticipation of and response to student difference in readiness, interest, and learning needs." (Tomlinson, 2001, p.7) This workshop will study the priniples of defensible differentiation, backward design, and strategies to provide challenging and future-oriented instruction that promotes both engagement and understanding.
