This course examines new historical themes each semester with an expert in the field. In a small seminar setting, classes will focus on discussion of a variety of different kinds of historical sources and provide the opportunity for students to carry out their research project on the topic.

In this special topics course, we will investigate the rise of nationalism in Europe, the USA, and around the globe from the late 18th century onwards. Specific topics covered will include the American and French Revolutions, the Revolutions of 1848, anti-Semitism and Zionism, World War I, Nazism, World War II, McCarthyism and the Red Scare, Black Power, decolonization, 9/11, and ISIS.
