This course examines new historical themes each semester with an expert in the field. In a small seminar setting, classes will focus on discussion of a variety of different kinds of historical sources and provide the opportunity for students to carry out their research project on the topic.

HY0214HY0214 THE MEDIEVAL CRUSADES
This seminar will focus on the crusading movement of the European Middle Ages, by examining seven official crusades which affected the Holy Land and Middle East, but also including the crusades fought against heretics in the European interior. Students will examine the various reasons for crusades, the creation of a crusading ideology, the impact of the crusades upon religious minorities, among other themes.
